Otherside is an interoperable metaverse game that is being built on the Ethereum blockchain. When we say ‘interoperable,’ we mean that the metaverse can connect to other metaverses (like Sandbox or Decentraland) and transfer data from them. It also accepts NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht, Mutant Ape Yacht, Meebits, and CryptoPunks collections and turns them into 3D playable characters.
At the center of the Otherside is a Biogenic Swamp, which is the rarest type of land on the metaverse; 10,000 of these lands are reserved for holders of Bored Ape Yacht NFTs. Surrounding the Biogenic Swamp is the Chemical Goo, which is the second-rarest land type in the metaverse. 20,000 Goo is reserved for the holders of Mutant Ape Yacht NFTs. Rainbow Atmos, Cosmic Dream, and Infinite Expanse are the least rare land types on Otherside (with Infinite Expanse being the most common land). 15,000 of the three lands are reserved for the project developers, while 55,000 are reserved for public purchase with ApeCoin.
Who Are The Developers?
Otherside Metaverse is being developed by Yuga Lab and Improbable World, with contributions from Voyagers (these are early buyers of the lands on Otherside).
1). Yuga Labs
Yuga Lab is the tech company behind some of the most popular NFT collections on Ethereum; topping this list are the Bored Ape Yacht NFTs, Mutant Ape Yacht NFTs, and Bored Ape Kennel Club NFTs. The company also bought ownership of CryptoPunks and Meebits NFT collections, with each of them having over 169,000 in total trading volume.
Yuga Labs is governed by ApeCoin DAO, which comprises holders of Bored Ape Yacht and Mutant Ape Yacht NFTs. Yuga Labs announced its partnership with Improbable World to build the Otherside Metaverse in 2022. This will turn all NFTs developed by the lab into playable characters.
2). Improbable World
Improbable World is a tech company that develops multiplayer software for video games (like Scavengers, Nightingale, and Worlds Adrift) and builds metaverse technologies (like the M2 network and Morpheus technology). The technology behind the M2 network allows metaverses to connect and transfer assets between themselves. It also lets developers design NFTs that can be imported as playable characters into the metaverse. Improbable World announced that they would be collaborating with Yuga Labs in 2022 to use the M2 network to build the Otherside Metaverse.
3). Voyagers
Voyagers are the first adopters of the Otherside metaverse. They are Bored Ape Yacht and Mutant Ape Yacht NFT holders who already own lands in the metaverse.
Voyagers are invited to test the metaverse through an 11-stage Voyager’s Journey (the stages are also referred to as trips). On each trip, voyagers can team up with each other and develop their experience on the platform. This will help the developers examine the functionalities of the game and decide what works and what should be improved in the next step of the game.
How To Join The Otherside Metaverse
1). Buy an Otherdeed
Otherdeed is a dynamic NFT that represents the deed to a plot of land on the Otherside. Each plot is made up of a unique combination of environment, sediment, natural resources, artifacts, and Kodas (the native inhabitants of the metaverse). As a dynamic NFT, the last three of its five compositions can be removed from the plot and sold in a secondary market.
There are a total of 200,000 Otherdeeds, half of which will be given as rewards to Voyagers for contributing to the development of the game. From the other half, 10% has been distributed to holders of Bored Ape Yacht NFT, 20% to Mutant Ape Yacht holders, 15% to Yuga Labs developers and other project developers, and 55% is available for purchase using ApeCoin. ApeCoin is an ERC-20 token that can be bought on centralized crypto exchanges like Coinbase or swapped with other ERC-20 tokens on decentralized exchanges like Uniswap.
2). Become a player by connecting the NFT
Apart from owning an Otherdeed, one can also participate in Otherside games by importing their NFT into the metaverse, buying Kodas from a secondary NFT market, or creating their in-game character with its Development Toolkit.
All NFTs owned by Yuga Labs, including Cool Cats, World of Women, and CryptoToadz NFTs, can be imported into the Otherside Metaverse. They can also import game characters from other metaverses that use similar M2 technology.
Kodas are one of the rarest playable characters in the Otherside metaverse. There are only 10,000 Kodas for the 200,000 Otherdeeds on the platform. They can buy these characters from the primary NFT market on the metaverse or a secondary marketplace like Opensea.
Yuga Labs also lets them create in-game characters, places, avatars, and wearables with its Development Toolkit. The authoring tools allow them to create character templates without spending resources, while the manufacturing tools enable them to bring the characters to life. These characters can be created in the form of 2D images or 3D objects that can respond to other characters in the game.
What Makes The Otherside Metaverse Unique
1). Crowd Networking
A common problem in the metaverse is their inability to host more than a few dozen people in a single virtual location. Even when some metaverses bypass this issue, there is still the problem of crowd audio and virtual restrictions among characters in a dense room. Yuga Labs solves these problems by using the M2 network and Morpheus technology designed by Improbable World. This allows up to 10,000 players to gather in a room and network among themselves.
2). Connecting from any device
Most metaverses require players to have high-end gaming computers or to install software with multiple layers to access the platform. On the other hand, the Otherside metaverse allows players to connect using a web browser that is accessible on mobile devices.
Conclusion
The Otherside metaverse is still undergoing playtesting from Voyagers and developers. Although there is currently no information on when the game will be fully ready, enthusiasts can buy Otherdeeds and secure land in the metaverse.
