Nova Labs Inc. is expanding its mobile plan nationwide, priced at $20 per month, offering unlimited text, talk, and data. What sets this apart is its integration of blockchain technology and utilization of the T-Mobile wireless network.
This isn’t the first time cryptocurrency ventures into telecommunications; Nova Labs previously launched a $5 plan limited to Miami customers under the Helium Mobile brand.
Following the success of the Miami plan, which continues at $5, Nova Labs CEO Amir Haleem decided to introduce a $20 nationwide offering. The Helium Mobile network operates through wireless hotspots that users can install in their homes.
Nova Labs provides both outdoor ($499) and indoor ($249) hotspot options. When out of range, the phone seamlessly switches to the T-Mobile network.
Helium hotspot owners earn crypto tokens called MOBILE as users connect to the Helium network. Haleem explained that owners receive around 50 cents in MOBILE tokens per gigabyte used on their hotspots.
This incentivizes users to share their hotspots, as they earn tokens when others utilize their network. The cost for users accessing the network remains consistent at 50 cents per gigabyte, with the MOBILE token’s value influencing the number of tokens hotspot hosts receive.
